Guidetti: Celtic have signed Sweden striker John Guidetti on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The announcement followed an appeal to FIFA by the Scottish FA due to confusion about whether the paperwork had been registered before the transfer window closed on Monday. Guidetti, 22, joined Man. City at the age of 16 but never played a senior game.

Rojo: Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has been granted a work permit and will be able to make his debut against Queens Park Rangers on Sept. 14. The 24-year-old Argentine was signed for £16 million last month but missed the first three games of the season. Rojo will increase manager Louis van Gaal’s options in a defence that has struggled to adapt to his preferred 5-3-2 formation.

Hasebe: Japan‘s ‘new start’ under coach Javier Aguirre will get underway without captain Makoto Hasebe after he pulled out of the squad for today’s friendly against Uruguay due to a knee injury. The Eintracht midfielder said he felt pain in his left knee, the same one he had surgery on five years ago.

Odemwingie: Stoke striker Peter Odemwingie needs knee surgery and will be sidelined for a lengthy period of time. The Nigeria international injured his knee during Stoke’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the weekend and will have surgery when the swelling has gone down.

Reid: Former England midfielder Peter Reid became the latest high-profile name to sign up for the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League after he was named manager of the Mumbai franchise yesterday. “It’s a great opportunity to coach in the Indian Super League. I enjoyed working overseas with Thailand and am very much looking forward to this challenge.”

Friendly: Valletta vs Balzan 6-0.
