Fr Joe Borg has now become an expert of his version of the truth. “What is the truth?” (John Ch 18. 38). Is he a new Elijah?

In his latest diatribe, Fr Borg (August 27) wants to set himself on the highest pinnacle. Is he aiming to be the next archbishop? God help Malta, as going through his writings I cannot fathom what makes him tick. I am not Archbishop Paul Cremona’s defender, in fact there is one point on which he and I do not see eye to eye, but this hardly encourages me to go all out against him.

Fr Borg seems to have a grudge against feasts. He also shows that he hasn’t the slightest inkling how external feasts are organised in Malta and Gozo: only internal celebrations are paid for by the parish. If such an expense were to be burdened by charitable contributions, what about the expenses incurred during the Easter and Christmas period? Are these not also Church feasts?

The external celebrations are taken care of by a number of groups. These are purely voluntary. Instead of spending time and money in gambling or other pastimes, these groups dedicate their free time to make our feasts more colourful.

There are many charitable events in Malta, which all are well supported by the public. My advice is to let charities alone. He risks causing undue harm, as I would be the first to boycott any charity that is imposed on me.

Having said all this, in Floriana (and other parishes), during the feast period there are specific collections for charity. However, these are done on a voluntary basis and in no way tied to other expenses.

Wake up Fr Borg and before you pontificate, find out what is going around you.
