Malta U-21 coach Silvio Vella has named his 18-man squad for tomorrow’s Euro Championship qualifier against Turkey at the National Stadium (kick-off 5pm).

This will be Vella’s first match in charge of the U21s after suc-ceeding Ray Farrugia who has been appointed assistant coach of the senior national team.

Silvio Vella, who is assisted by Ronald Vella, has called up three newcomers to his squad, namely Valletta striker Luke Montebello, Floriana defender Manuel Briffa and Pietà Hotspurs midfielder Kyle Cesare.

Still without a point after losing all seven of their Group 7 matches, tomorrow’s game against Turkey is Malta’s last chance to break their duck in this UEFA qualifying campaign.

The Maltese youngsters pro-duced a gutsy performance in their last home qualifier but their efforts were not rewarded as Sweden emerged 2-1 winners.

With 10 points from six games, Turkey must beat Malta to keep their qualification hopes alive.
