A President’s regeneration forum will breathe new life into Floriana, according to the locality’s mayor Nigel Holland.

Addressing a meeting of the newly set up Floriana Regeneration Forum, Mr Holland said he hoped to see incentives to stop the area from turning into a ghost town.

The locality, he said, was in need of “drastic measures” to combat its dwindling population, poor air quality and high number of unoccupied residences.

The meeting saw representatives from the local council, band club, religious entities, political clubs and sports clubs join in a roundtable discussion on the challenges facing the locality.

President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said she hoped to find ways to help inject some more life into the locality.

Floriana deputy mayor Matthew Paris said the aim of the incentive was not to scrounge money from the government or Presidency, but to find way to tap into existing funds as well as to look for self-sustaining solutions.
