Three Bulgarians were yesterday conditionally discharged after admitting to living a vagrant life and begging in the streets of Valletta over the past week.
Wheelchair user Ivan Borisov, 29, Genoveva Dineva, 30, and Kirana Ivanova, 61, had been begging in the capital for six days and were arrested after the police received complaints from tourists, Police Inspector Daryl Borg said.
The prosecution noted that the accused had apologised and said they did not know it was illegal to beg in Malta.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli conditionally discharged them for three years.
