Cricket: India’s slow bowlers tormented England again to claim a six-wicket victory in the third one-day international in Nottingham yesterday to go 2-0 up in the five-match series. Having lost the toss and being put in to bat at Trent Bridge, the home team were bowled out for 227, Ravichandran Ashwin leading the way with three for 39. Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina then shared a partnership of 87 for the fourth wicket to help India reach their target with seven overs remaining.

Equestrian: Olympic gold medallist Ben Maher has been ruled out of the Great Britain showjumping team for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Maher’s intended ride in Caen this week Cella had suffered “a small over-reach injury” during training. It is a major setback for a British team seeking world title glory after winning at London 2012.

Golf: Ryder Cup selection is a top priority for Keegan Bradley and he gave his prospects of a late call-up a timely boost by charging into contention for the Deutsche Bank Championship on Friday. Bradley, who has made no secret of his desire to be one of three wildcard picks by US captain Tom Watson this week, fired a flawless six-under-par 65 at the TPC Boston to end the opening round two shots off the pace.

Cycling: Time trial junior world champion Igor Decraene of Belgium has died at the age of 18, the Belgian federation said on its website yesterday. The federation did not elaborate on the circumstances of Decraene’s death. Decraene had been dubbed as a great hope of Belgian cycling and had been set to ride for the Omega Pharma-Quick Step professional team.
