I would like to compare the papacy to that of the presidency of the US. What do they have in common? Both occupants are world leaders, have enormous responsibilities, are on the job 24/7 and their jobs lead to stress.
What do they not have in common? Their term of office is different. Is it possible for the Church to follow the example of the US President who can only serve two four-year terms in office?
If so, this limit should apply to popes, archbishops and other senior Church leaders.
Is such a term limit is adopted, it would result in news ideas, new blood, an elimination of prolonged stress and retirement with honours.
May I be bold enough to ask Fr Rene Camilleri and Fr Joe Borg for their views?
