It serves us right. We are no more than a corrupt, immoral and rebellious generation.
Just reading through the comments in Times of Malta, after the recent articles about Church leadership, I can only conclude that we get what we deserve.
How long have we been abusing our Church, our priests?
We are the abusers, the ones who have rebelled and do exactly as we please.
Then, when we need a priest to perform a religious ceremony, like a baptism, marriage, funeral or the sacrament of the sick, we expect our priests to oblige. However, if they dare point out that we may require the sacrament of reconciliation, out come the accusers ready to throw stones at them.
We all know that priests are human, just like us, they have their faults and weaknesses, and some of them do commit scandal, but the majority entered into a life of self-giving and sacrifice for the right reasons. They have answered a call and given their lives to God, the Church, to all of us.
How ungrateful we are and how much should we repent and ask God to forgive us!
It is no surprise that vocations are few and far between. This life is not for the faint-hearted.
The following quote is God speaking to Ezekiel: “And I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute, no longer one who rebukes them for being a rebellious house” (Chapter 3v26). I wonder, is it God permitting our leaders to withdraw from guiding us? Is it His way of telling us that He is upset with us because we have rebelled and brought in laws that are not pleasing to Him? And not just laws but a way of life that has rejected His son and the promise of eternal life and embraced, instead, the emptiness of false gods and their promises.
