Friendly off: Israel and Germany have agreed to cancel a 2015 friendly game as turmoil in the Middle East has forced a rescheduling of a Euro 2016 qualifier. Israel, who were to host Belgium on Sept. 9 in a 2016 European championships qualifier, have rescheduled that game for March next year to reserve the right of a home game. The German federation said they would announce a different opponent for their March 25 friendly at a later date.
Fined: Japan’s Yokohama Marinos club have been slapped with a 5 million yen ($48,179) fine after a fan made a racist gesture during last Saturday’s match against Kawasaki Frontale at their Mitsuzawa Stadium. A Marinos supporter was seen on television waving a banana at Kawasaki’s Brazilian striker Renato during the 2-0 home win and the teenager was subsequently identified and banned indefinitely by the red-faced club.
Fuarlin: Alejandro Faurlin is set to miss a large part of the season after the QPR midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Wednesday’s League Cup defeat at Burton. The 28-year-old has sustained two similar injuries over the last three seasons and will now be missing from Harry Redknapp’s squad for a number of months.
Robinson: QPR have signed full-back Jack Robinson from Liverpool and immediately loaned him out to Huddersfield. The 20-year-old England Under-21 international has penned a four-year deal with Rangers, but will spend the first of them with Championship side Huddersfield.
Demetriou: Swansea have snapped up 19-year-old striker James Demetriou after his contract at Nottingham Forest expired. The Australian-born Cyprus Under-21 international has signed a two-year deal and will join up with the Swans’ Under-21 squad. “My short-term aim is get game time and try to score as many goals as I can, but long-term I want to break into the first-team here and impress the manager,” Demetriou said.
