Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married in Chateau Miraval, France on Saturday - four days before coming to Malta for the shooting of their latest film.

A spokesman said the Hollywood stars wed in a small chapel in a private ceremony attended by family and friends.

In advance of the nondenominational civil ceremony, Brad and Angelina obtained a marriage licence from a local California judge, who also conducted the ceremony in France.

The couple's children took part in the wedding. The actress walked down the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox and Pax, while daughters Zahara and Vivienne threw petals. Their remaining offspring, Shiloh and Knox, served as ring bearers, the spokesman said.

The A-listers finally tied the knot after months of rumours about their nuptials.

Brad said previously of getting hitched: "I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come."

They are due to start filming together on the movie By The Sea, their first film together since Mr And Mrs Smith in 2005.
