On Monday/Tuesday night, I was among those residents of Portomaso, in St Julian’s who had a sleepless night as a result of the very loud so-called music emanating from an open air seaside eatery across the bay.

The thumping noise was of such a high pitch that even double glazing could not keep this out of one’s bedroom.

What is totally unacceptable is the fact that this went on until 2.30am and no action was taken by the police to stop this blatant illegality. The sound must have been heard by police patrols and even at St Julian’s police station.

If the station is insufficiently manned, the least that was expected is for one of the officers on duty to seek help from the Rapid Intervention Unit.

Surely we taxpayers should not be expected to complain by phoning the police station hoping that the line is not engaged and, if it is free, that somebody does answer the phone.

Especially with the feast of St Julian’s due to be celebrated this weekend, one can only hope that the police will be on the alert to stop any further abuses that cause St Julian’s residents any more sleepless nights.
