Lately, my sister was involved in a bad accident and is still in hospital suffering from her injuries. A car ran into her while she was crossing the road near the Piazzetta, in Sliema.

Several people cross the road at this spot, which is not very well lit in the evenings. People who came to assist her said that this happens on a regular basis.

Hence, I am appealing to the authorities concerned to instal a pedestrian crossing there.

It is true that there is one near the Preluna Hotel. However, for my sister, who is 82, and her husband, 86, who both make use of a walking aid, this is a 10-minute walk, besides having to pass by a construction site and having to cross another road.

There are several elderly people who enjoy relaxing in the area of the Chalet in the evenings. The traffic here comes from Qui-si -Sana and from Tower Road but still several people, young and old, cross from here.

Therefore, I would like to appeal to whoever is concerned to instal a pedestrian crossing as soon as possible before a fatal accident happens.
