Lukimya: Werder Bremen have extended Assani Lukimya’s contract until 2017. The defender’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but he has impressed enough since joining the club from Fortuna Dusseldorf in 2012 to earn a new deal.

Stadium ban: Levski Sofia have been ordered to play their next two home matches behind closed doors following crowd trouble during their 3-0 loss to Litex Lovech in the Bulgarian league on Sunday. The Bulgarian Football Union’s disciplinary commission also fined Levski $6,070 after fans threw objects and fireworks onto the field.

Maccabi: Oscar Garcia has stepped down as coach of Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv, with former Liverpool assistant manager Pako Ayestaran named as his replacement. Garcia, who returned for his second stint at Maccabi on a two-year contract this summer, is leaving the Tel Aviv outfit “due to the current security situation” in the country, the club announced on their website.

Baumjohann: Hertha Berlin midfielder Alexander Baumjohann has suffered a setback by tearing his cruciate knee ligaments for the second time. The 27-year-old picked up the injury last week. It was initially thought he had just sprained his knee, but tests conducted by knee specialist Ulrich Boenisch brought the shattering news.

Eto’o: Everton have announced the signing of Samuel Eto’o on a two-year deal. The 33-year-old striker was released by Chelsea at the end of last season and had been linked with Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool before they sealed a surprise deal for Mario Balotelli. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez then stepped in to add the Cameroon international to a forward line that is led by another Stamford Bridge recruit in Romelu Lukaku.”

Beto: Sevilla goalkeeper Beto will be sidelined for a month with a muscle tear in his left leg. The Portugal international was hurt during Saturday’s Primera Division opener against Valencia, which finished 1-1.
