The last three games from the 2014 CricHQ Summer League were played last weekend at the Marsa oval.

In the opener, Marsa played against Krishna CC who needed a win to remain in contention and halt their opponents from clinching the title.

Marsa batted first with superb displays from Mark G. Sacco (30 runs), Andrew Naudi (27), Chris Naudi (33) and Bikram Arora (17).

After 20 overs Marsa’s total reached a good 153.

Sarfraz Ali took two wickets while Kevin Krishna and Nowell Khosla picked a wicket each.

In Krishna CC’s reply, Zubair Raja produced an excellent performance and hit 46 runs off 30 balls while Tony Azzopardi chipped in with 16.

The final score of 122 was not enough though as John Callus and Ronnie Sacco took two wickets to lead their team to victory and the Summer League winners’ medal.

Marsa played Marauders next and again they batted first.

Marauders were very effective in their bowling and this time Marsa were held to 96 runs. Malcolm Crabbe top-scored with 23 and Ravi Sharma 17.

The wicket-takers for Marauders were Mike Caruana, two, while Luke Bradley, Amy Caruana, Ian Pendlebury,Tom Newell and Ewan Perenz all took a wicket each.

For the second time in a row Marauders went on to beat Marsa, this time it took them until the 17th over to reach their target.

Tom Newell was instrumental in his team’s victory with 42 runs. Perenz was 16 not out as Dean Arnold added 12.

The win put Marauders four points behind Krishna in the provisional standings so the last game of the tournament was to decide which team would finish in the runners-up spot.

Marauders batted first and again Newell produced the goods, scoring 49 runs. He was aided by Pendelbury who added 32 for a total of 112.

But what was expected to be an exciting finale became a shambles after only two overs had been bowled as the game came to a halt following an intervention by the Krishna CC captain.

After careful examination, the points were awarded to Marauders with the action taken by Krishna CC being deemed as lacking the spirit of cricket.

The game was forfeited by the Krishna team and Marauders, not in the manner they had intended, were declared winners.
