Passengers and cars on a ferry which was about to leave Mgarr for Cirkewwa this evening needed to be disembarked when the ferry developed a ramp problem.

The passengers were embarked on another ferry.

The case happened at about 9.30 p.m. with the service being delayed by 45 minutes.

A Gozo Channel spokesman said the ramp repairs will be completed tonight.

Gozo Channel was particularly busy over the past week, with 70,000 passengers having crossed between the islands during Sta Marija week. The ferries also carried 18,000 cars.

The number of passengers carried was 3% more than last year and 9% more than the year before.

Times of Malta reported earlier this month how every hotel room in Gozo was booked.
