Eremenko: Russian champions CSKA Moscow have signed Finland midfielder Roman Eremenko from top-flight rivals Rubin Kazan. “I am very happy I can start work with my new team,” the 27-year-old said. “There are a lot of emotions and expectations in particular over the Champions League.” Eremenko has agreed a four-year deal with CSKA.

Jones: United States World Cup midfielder Jermaine Jones has signed for Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution. The 32-year-old Frankfurt-born midfielder has played the bulk of his career in the Bundesliga where he featured for Schalke before moving to Turkey’s Besiktas in January.

Unforgivable act: Yokohama Marinos president Akira Kaetsu apologised profusely yesterday after one of the club’s fans waved a banana at Kawasaki Frontale’s Brazilian striker Renato on Saturday, describing the act as ‘unforgivable’. Marinos banned the supporter indefinitely after the teenager was identified by club officials when the footage went viral. “I’d like to apologise to the members and staff of Kawasaki Frontale and their families. I’m very sorry about this incident,” Kaetsu said. “It’s unforgivable. We will not tolerate any acts of discrimination.”

Dawson: Hull manager Steve Bruce has agreed a deal “in principle” to sign Tottenham defender Michael Dawson. Bruce yesterday confirmed his summer-long pursuit of 30-year-old Dawson was close to bearing fruit and hopes to push the transfer through quickly. “It’s up to me to bring two or three in, we’re close to one in particular and we hope we can get that over the line,” said Bruce. “Michael Dawson we hope we can get. There’s a deal in place.”
