The ‘count’ of Monte Cristo wrote a letter of apology to our dear father and by divine condescension this father welcomed him back in the fold. It bore fruit because the Head of State opened a show there.

Recently, a very old carob tree from Tad-Duru, Nadur was mercilessly cut down. People grumbled but did not speak out. They don’t seem to use their sacred right in democracy of sounding their voices.

I also wonder why is good agricultural land being turned into a seat for batching plants illegally at Ta’ Bordin, Għajnsielem?

It seems that this government is no better than the one before it and it seems that those in the party who have at heart the natural environment have been neutered.

Incidentally, on the same day that the new cemetery in Nadur was inaugurated, I listened to an interview about the new policy on cemeteries. The Malta Environment and Planning Authority official said that no new cemeteries will be given a permit and the extensions have to pass the test of not contaminating ground water.

Empty words.

The planning and environment watchdog is always a bit too late and always seems to be incapable of being really effective in protecting what really matters.

The spring water in Għajn Qasab has already been compromised and more is to come when the burials start.

Although the Church may be legally right, it has also to be seen to be morally right in the eyes of men of goodwill.

And the tragic tango continues. Because, of course, it takes at least two to tango.
