Africa Cup: Libya have been removed as hosts of the 2017 African Nations Cup finals as fighting in the country continues to rage, delaying plans to build new stadiums for the 16-team tournament. The Confederation of African Football are inviting new bidders for the tournament, it said. Countries wishing to host the tournament have until Sept. 30 to send in expressions of interest, it added.

Cerci: Torino have received another offer for Alessio Cerci from overseas, club president Urbano Cairo said. Milan are interested in the Italy winger but reports said they’re only ready to pay Torino €15 million for Cerci who is valued €5 million more by his club. “They are looking for Cerci abroad too, not only the clubs that have appeared in the local newspapers,” Cairo said. “This weekend a new request has arrived.”

Eto’o: Cameroon have made a major overhaul to their squad, dropping 13 players from the party who went to the World Cup including captain Samuel Eto’o. German-born coach Volker Finke an-nounced a new-look 25-man squad yesterday for the Africa Cup qualifiers away against Congo on September 6 and then at home against the Ivory Coast four days later. Eto’o has been without a club since being released by Chelsea at the end of last season.

Nani: Nani missed a penalty on his return to Sporting but the capital club did manage to beat Arouca 1-0 on Saturday night. The Portugal winger has joined the Lions on a season-long loan from Manchester United, seven years after leaving the Lisbon giants for the Premier League. He fluffed his lines from the spot in the 63rd minute and was substituted before the winning goal was scored by Carlos Mane on the stroke of full-time.

Sellout: A sold-out game in the Swedish capital was played in front of more spectators than four of Saturday’s English Premier League matches. Yesterday’s sellout bet-ween Hammarby, currently third in the Superettan league, and leaders Ljungskile was attended by 31,500 fans at the Tele2 Arena as the home side are looking to make it back to the top flight for the first time since 2009. Of the six games played in England’s Premier League on Saturday, only Everton-Arsenal and Chelsea-Leicester were watched by more spectators.
