Ryan Callus, the youngest MP on the Opposition benches, got down on bended knee to propose to his girlfriend Maria Stivala while both were on missionary work in Africa.
She said yes, to the evident joy of onlookers.
Mr Callus formed part of a group of 25 young people who went to Kenya on missionary work organised by the NGO Karibu Malta.
Although it had been on his mind for months, the right moment came during a play depicting a wedding.
