I was quite amazed at the choice of language of one of the regular columnists (Ivan Fenech) in his article ‘Selective customer care’ (August 19), particularly what he wrote in his introduction, which read: “For years, when I visited Malta with my family... there was a game we played... let’s see who spots that godforsaken island first.”

What sort of family would travel repeatedly to what it perceives as a godforsaken island (godforsaken means: miserable, wretched, joyless, uninviting and lacking any merit)? Personally, I would never choose to take my family to a depressing and gloomy place, even if it were my home.

Also, the picture in caption showed a number of diplomatic vehicles parked on Merchants Street, Valletta, in front of the Foreign Ministry, with the caption reading: “If you’re lucky, the minister and his staff are on holiday and you’d be able to move freely around Valletta.”

In fact, diplomatic vehicles (belonging to foreign governments) and the minister’s vehicles are not the same.
