A 73-year-old man who pointed a loaded gun at an acquaintance and then claimed he was only trying to show him the firearm was conditionally discharged for a year.

Ugo Scicluna, from Gżira, went to Stephen Galea’s house in Sliema on Saturday and pointed the loaded, German-manufactured Rohm gun at him. Mr Galea reported the matter to the police, saying he was also threatened by Mr Scicluna. In court, Mr Scicluna insisted he only went to Mr Galea’s house to show him his weapon, adding that this was interpreted as a threat.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit ordered the confiscation of the gun.

Sources close to the case said the two men had argued many times though the loaded gun incident could not be explained.

Police Inspector Jonathan Ransley prosecuted. Lawyer Anthony Stellini appeared as legal aid for Mr Scicluna.
