Maryanne was a truly perfect lady. Her passing on has left a void, not to mention the double-void due to the almost simultaneous demise of a loving husband.

I have been her neighbour for nearly 15 years and could fondly observe how much she cared about her dear husband, Hugh, and her three adult children. I never heard her grumble or complain about anything or anyone and she always had nice words and that gentle smile towards all she met.

Indeed, she was full of virtues, one of which was her simple humility. If one did a small favour to her, she would spontaneously respond with a ‘thank you’ telephone call or with a handwritten note of appreciation… and sometimes she might turn up behind one’s door with a small present.

She was always ready to do someone a good deed and genuinely appreciated small deeds done to her.

If you are not well, Maryanne would phone up to say she is praying for you and that you are in her mind. Her caring nature shone out, yet, on the other hand, she would feel embarrassed if you did her a good turn.

When her health was deteriorating or she would have had a little accident, she did not expect anyone to fuss about it. In fact, she wouldn’t ever grumble or lament about her aches and pains, mainly not to upset or burden her family, whom she loved so dearly.

Hugh and Maryanne were complementary to each other. They were, as many will agree, an ideal couple, guided by Christian values.

May God welcome them both into His heavenly abode and may their good example as a married couple live on in our memories for a good long time.

Thank you, Maryanne, for being such a wonderful friend!

Condolences to David and to Karen and Rhona and their respective husbands.
