The number of occupational accidents during the second quarter of this year decreased by 4.5 per cent when compared to the corresponding period in 2013, the statistics office said.

820 persons had a non-fatal accident at work between April and June,  39 fewer than in the same months in 2013.

The biggest number of accidents was in the manufacturing sector (22.8 per cent) followed by construction (16.8 per cent), Accommodation and food services (10.7 per cent) and Transportation and storage (10.5 per cent).

More than a quarter of non-fatal accidents at work concerned persons aged between 25 and 34.

Superficial injuries, and dislocations, strains and sprains were the most
common types, of non-fatal accidents.
Nearly half the non-fatal injuries at work affected the upper parts of the body, such as the fingers and hands.

No fatal accidents were reported. Two fatalities at work were reported during the same period last year
