I clearly recall having read some paper by a learned historian who, after deep research, had claimed that the bay known as Salina used to extend right up to Burmarrad and had, in fact, been used by the Romans as a safe harbour and landing stage.

In this light, I am concerned about the massive earth disturbance being carried out in the immediate area in connection with the widening and improvement of the Coast Road.

I wonder, therefore, whether the works are being monitored by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage to ensure that any Roman artefacts that could be buried there are not being damaged or destroyed.
