I think it is deeply insensitive and disrespectful for Times of Malta to refer to the Justice Ministry cars in Merchants’ Street, Valletta as being ‘illegally’ parked.

The correct and proper nomenclature is ‘irregularly’ parked.

Referring to them as ‘illegally’ parked carries connotations of criminality, whereas the truth is that these are honest, hard–working automobiles that are merely seeking ‘asylum’ in Merchants’ Street. A caption reading “This driver ignored the law and parked a car under a ‘no vehicles’ sign” should instead state that the driver really had no choice but to park the vehicle there to provide for his family and that he was only re-imagining an overly harsh parking restriction.

Times of Malta must be more sensitive to the use of derogatory terms like these to make sure that its readers are not offended by an indelicate interpretation of unfolding political events. Thank you.
