When the First Division knockout final was resumed early in the second session yesterday, Marsascala Mor€, who also lead the league table comfortably, managed to outdo Otters Nivea to carry off the first honour of the season in their category.

It was a late surge which started at the end of the third session which finally proved to be the turning point.

The winners owe their success mostly to Gergo Marnitz who grabbed six goals, with Sergi Mora netting twice while the others came from Liam Grixti, Matthew Pace and Joe Cremona.

It appeared quite balanced until just before the end of the third session with the southerners leading 7-6.

But then Ivan Vuksanovic, who scored four goals, missed a penalty throw after which Marsascala immediately replied to make it 8-6.

In the last session the team led by Pierre Borg and his assistant Arpad Babay, opened a comfortable five-goal lead before three late goals from the Gozitans made the scoreline look more respectable

At the end of the match BOV Chief Officer Peter Perotti presented the Cup to Marsascala captain Joe Cremona and medals to all the players.
