Żebbuġ Rangers have strengthened their forward line with the capture of Scottish striker Craig Beattie.

The Premier League side were in search of a forward following the departure of Nigerian striker Obinna Obiefule who has moved to Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

Beattie arrived in Malta on Sunday and attended his first training session with coach Jesmond Zammit yesterday after he agreed to put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option of another year.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a four-year spell with Scottish champions Celtic between 2003 and 2007 where he amassed 50 appearances and scored 13 goals. He was also on the books of West Brom, Sheffield United and Swansea.

Last season he played for Dundee where he made 18 appearances, netting five goals.

Żebbuġ, who lost their league opener against Balzan 4-2 last weekend, are hopeful of completing Beattie’s registration in time for Saturday’s match against Birkirkara.
