Malta champion driver Noel Baldacchino is in Sweden to represent the country at the European Championship for Professional Drivers which is going to be hosted by the racetracks of Solanget and Umea between today and tomorrow.

The best drivers in Europe participate in the championship and this year Baldacchino will be testing his skills against Hubert Brandstatter (Austria), Knud Monster (Denmark), Mika Forss (Finland), Tony Le Beller (France), Michael Nimczyk (Germany), Hugo Langeweg (The Netherlands), Vidar Hop (Norway), Branislav Mukic (Serbia), Guillermo Andreau Adover (Spain) and Bjorn Goop (Sweden).

Goop registered 367 victories from 2,084 starts last season and the Swede is hoping to extend his remarkable stretch this week as championship races will be held in front of a home crowd.

These past few years the Euro races were held every other year, alternating with the World Championship.

The top five this week will earn the right to participate in the World Championship in Australia next February. In 2014, the world title was claimed by Frenchman Pierre Vercruysse and the 2012 European crown went to Italian Enrico Bellei.

The championship opens at the Solanget racetrack today with drivers taking part in four races.

Baldacchino will be driving Pine Rolls, Razza Yamoz, Kallblads and the more-quoted Elegance Brodde.

The following day action moves to the racetrack of Umaker with another four races.

Here, Baldacchino will be at the helm of Rally Swing, Kallblads again, Angskalla and Bart Sjohammar.

The last race is for mares over the 2,140m distance.

Baldacchino will be driving number 11 Global Numerous which is not ranked among the favourites for the top placings.
