A member of staff at the Westin Dragonara Resort is cycling 355km in three days to raise funds and awareness of poverty in Somalia.

Aaron Axisa, a front office shift leader, will be cycling through the French and Swiss Alps as part of Unicef’s Road to Awareness campaign at the end of the month.

The international children’s charity aims to help 2.1 million Somalians living in poverty gain sustainable access to safe water and sanitation by 2015.

“Giving a helping hand to the less fortunate is a dream come true, especially doing so on two wheels,” Mr Axisa said.

“Two wheels are my ultimate passion, and to be able to cycle for a good cause is the greatest feeling one can have.

“My goal is to finish the three-day challenge in one piece or at least with a few minor bumps and bruises.”

The hotel is fully behind its employee and sponsors can support Aaron on his challenge by donating through an official Unicef charity page at www.westinmalta.com/RoadtoAwareness.

It will be open until August 27, the first day of the event.

The Westin Dragonara’s parent company, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, aims to raise €450,000 towards water and sanitation facilities in Somalia through the campaign.
