A police sergeant was slightly injured early this morning during an argument in Paceville.

The police said the incident happened at around 2am in St George's Street as they were taking a 20-year-old man from Fgura to a police car.

The young man was involved in an argument. As he was being taken to the car, three young people arrived and another argument ensued.

This was when the police sergeant was injured. Another police officer was also attacked.

The three youths, all from Tarxien, are aged between 17 and 19. All four will be arraigned in the coming days.

Acting police commissioner Ray Zammit conveyed his get well wishes to the injured officer and condemned the young people’s behaviour.

He said no form of violence on members of the force during the course of their duty would be tolerated.
