Participants of this year’s Actavis Lifecycle Challenge met President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at the Palace in Valletta.

During the meeting the committee, cyclists and back-up team discussed with the President the various initiatives that the Lifecycle Foundation is undertaking in order to raise money for the Renal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital.

The unit caters for over 250 patients who require dialysis after kidney failure. Over the past 16 years, the Lifecycle Foundation has raised millions of euros which have been used to purchase home-dialysis units provide services and transport to enable night ­treatment and, most recently, €70,000 for a two-year research ­programme.

This year’s challenge will take the team to Japan, where they will cycle 2,000 kilometres from Fukuoka to Tokyo in 12 days.
