Food scientists have developed an ice-cream that glows in the dark - which comes in especially handy when you're trying to eat in partial darkness.

The treat, created by food designers Bompas and Parr for Wall's, was dished out at Vue in London's Leicester Square at the screening of Simon Pegg's film The World's End, much to the surprise of cinema-goers who found their ice-cream glowed a fluorescent yellow as soon as the lights were switched off.

"We've always been interested in the lurid allure of glow-in-the-dark food," said Bompas and Parr co-founder Sam Bompas. "Years ago we made glowing jellies as an art installation for SFMOMA. This year it was time to take the concept mainstream with glow-in-the-dark Cornettos."
