A man, believed to be Maltese, has been charged with attempted murder in Toronto.

Cory Galea, 21, of no fixed address, was also charged with aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon.

The Toronto police said a 33-year-old man was walking when he inadvertently bumped shoulders with one of two men while texting on his phone. The man he bumped into took exception as a perceived slight and attacked the victim.

While defending himself from the attackers, the victim was stabbed in the heart.

Another man, Mohamed Ali, 27, of Toronto, was also arrested in connection to the case and is facing attempted murder and aggravated assault charges.

Mr Galea, who gave himself in, is scheduled to appear in court today.
