The Italian Coast Guard today rescued 432 migrants from the Maltese search and rescue area in response to a distress call from Malta, Italian media reported.

They said three people needed urgent medical help and were rushed to Lampedusa.

Almost 100,000 migrants have arrived in Italy so far this year, many of whom were rescued under the Mare Nostrum program established last year.
