A total of 80 tired swimmers were yesterday assisted ashore at Comino's Blue Lagoon as they struggled because of strong sea currents.

The swimmers were assisted by lifeguards of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps. None required further medical intervention.

During the day, lifeguards also assisted a 21-year-old Belgian woman with a suspected spinal injury after jumping off the cliffs at Comino. She was taken to the Mgarr Harbour with a hydro ambulance and on to Gozo General Hospital by ambulance.
