I refer to the article titled ‘Locals protest Mepa application in Attard’ (August 7). In my capacity as President of the Malta Developers Association I declare that although I have every right to own property and be associated with any private company, I am neither a director nor a shareholder of Prince Properties. I do not have any connection with this company from whom years ago I had bought two plots in Attard. The two plots in question are within the limits of development.

The planning control application that was considered by Mepa referred to an area that included my two plots. As this type of application calling for the approval of the zoning of an area – and not to carry out development – has to be made conjointly by all owners of the area in question, I was included in the list of owners of the land.

The said application for a planning control permit, as submitted by Prince Properties, referred to a larger area than was earmarked for development in the 2006 Local Plan following the rationalisation exercise carried out by the administration of the time and endorsed by Parliament. Its approval would have meant an increase to the limits of development and, for this reason, I fully agree with the Mepa decision to refuse the application as submitted.
