Israel and Palestinians have accepted Egypt's proposal for a 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza, with the new truce beginning last night. Talks are to continue in Cairo.

Hours before the ceasefire began, rockets were fired at the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza.

The crossing serves as a transfer point for cargo into Gaza, including food and medical supplies.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging both sides to take advantage of the truce in order to resume negotiations.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel will not negotiate if it comes under fire from Gaza.

Israeli shelling on Sunday killed at least nine Palestinians, according to medics in Gaza.

No immediate reports of a breach of the ceasefire, as both sides adhere to the truce.
