The 200th anniversary of the day when suspected victims of the plague in Xagħra were allowed to return home after 40 days of strict and rigorous quarantine was commemorated by the Xagħra Victory Philharmonic Society.

The symbolic ceremony, led by society president Joseph Attard, was held at the Xagħra plague cemetery at Għajn Lukin.

The activity included a speech by Aaron Attard-Hili and the playing of the Last Post by band player Christian Magrin. Wreaths and flower bouquets were placed at the foot of the plinth in the middle of the cemetery.

The event was attended by representatives of the Xagħra community including the local council, Xagħra Historic and Reenactment Organisation, the Xagħra Scout Group and the Xagħra Victory Philharmonic Society. Society assistant spiritual director Joseph Cini also officiated.

At the end of the activity, Attard presented each entity a special postal hand stamp commemorative card marking the event, published by the society.

The card is on sale at €3 from the society club.
