Business consultant Peter Barrett has donated his collection of some 400 business books to the new library at the Middlesex University campus in Pembroke.

Barrett chose this university because of his ties with the UK, a county in which he grew up in and lived for over 20 years. The consultant also has a special interest in helping out new institutions.

He donated the books in the presence of Patrick Pullicino, head of the Malta campus, Matthew Lawson from the university’s London Library and Liza Franco, manager of the Malta library.

Barrett recently sold his businesses and retired from business life in order to dedicate himself to phil-anthropy with specific focus on lepers.

On the collection, Barrett said: “There is a variety of standard books of business and also publications with explanations on the practical implication of running a business, on how to diagnose what can be improved and how to grow and internationalise your business.”

The new library will be run by Franco who brings with her a wealth of experience having previously worked at the Dubai campus of Middlesex University. Together with Barrett’s donation, the library has available a wide range of literature, both in print and online, which will cater for both the lecturers’ and students’ requirements.

Barrett spoke on how books have played an integral part in his career, noting how “I always read up before working on a new project”.

He has lectured, consulted and worked in various branches of business. Barrett is founder of Organisation Development Ltd, a company which focuses on helping businesses undergo change. He is also author of The Human Implication of Mergers and Takeovers, a book he wrote on finding that there was no literature on the subject.

Middlesex University teaches 40,000 students worldwide. Its Malta campus offers courses in computer science, IT and business.
