Q: Lately, I was shopping around for some outdoor furniture, mainly a wooden table and some wooden chairs. Every shop I visited did not offer any guarantee with the sale of this kind of furniture. When I queried about such warranty, everyone replied that warranty on outdoor furniture does not exist. Is this true?

A: The kind of guarantee you asked for is the commercial guarantee, which is a voluntary guarantee sellers are not legally bound to give when selling products. However, when we consumers purchase a product, the law protects our purchase through the legal guarantee.

This legal protection is valid for two years from the date of delivery and entitles us to claim a remedy if the product purchased does not conform to the contract of sale.

Hence, in your particular case, the outdoor furniture must be adequate for its intended use. If it turns out to be inadequate, even though the seller did not give you a commercial guarantee, you may still be entitled to a free remedy according to the legal guarantee.
