KRS Releasing Limited recently screened the trailers of the films that will hit the big screen during this month. Last month provided some great titles, and August promises a bit more of the same.

With a line-up that features talking racoons and trees, anthropomorphic planes, veteran action heroes kicking butt, deadly cyclones and much more, cinephiles will certainly be spoilt for choice.

Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest franchise from the juggernaut that is the Marvel Universe – read the review on page five of this section. Another ragtag group of misfits come together for the third time in The Expendables 3, in which Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his team face off against ruthless arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson).

This will prove to be another over-the-top, yet undoubtedly amusing outing for Stallone and regulars Jason Statham and Jet Li, who are joined by a who’s who of Hollywood’s veteran A-listers including the aforementioned Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Wesley Snipes.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For is the highly-anticipated follow-up to directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s cult classic Sin City (2005). The sequel combines two of Miller’s classic stories from the graphic novels with new tales, where the town’s most hardboiled citizens cross paths with some of its more notorious inhabitants. The large ensemble is led by Mickey Rourke, Eva Green, Jessica Alba, Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Josh Brolin.

The In-Betweeners 2 brings us back together with best buddies Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), Neil (Blake Harrison) and Simon (Joe Thomas).

In this follow-up to the 2011 smash hit, the boys this time are on holiday in Australia, where they plan to party and hit on the girls. Things go awry when they meet a wealthy young Australian with a taste for trouble and more money than sense.

More laughs with a hint of romance can be found in What If, in which Daniel Radcliff stars as Wallace, a college dropout who’s been repeatedly burned by bad relationships and who decides to put his love life on hold.

Thrills and disaster feature aplenty in Into the Storm, in which a US town is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes.

Animated comedy comes in the form of Planes: Fire and Rescue, the follow-up to Disney’s Planes (2013). It features the adventures of a quirky crew of firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting Piston Peak National Park from a raging wildfire.

Liam Neeson and Brendan Fraser lend their voices to The Nut Job, which follows the travails of Surly, a mischievous city park squirrel and his rat friend Buddy who plan an outrageous nut-store heist.

The dance movie phenomenon that is the Step Up franchise continues to tap its toes onto the big screen, with the fifth in the franchise, cunningly titled Step Up 5: All In, which sees the protagonists come together in the ultimate dance-off.
