Rebecca Camilleri and Kevin Moore will represent Malta in the European Athletic Champion-ships which will be held at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich between August 12 and 17.

Camilleri will be participating in the women’s long jump while Moore will be running in the 100m and 200m where he will be gunning for a sub-21sec clocking.

Both athletes have just represented Malta in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where they have achieved creditable results.

Camilleri placed ninth in the long jump final with a best effort of 6.23m.

Moore was close to reaching the 200m semi-finals, missing qualification by a mere 0.03 seconds after placing third in his heat on 21.07 seconds.

Both Camilleri and Moore are coming from a very positive season and currently in the top 100 of the European rankings.

However, they face a tough task to emulate Tanya Blake’s achievement during the 2002 European Championships in Munich where she succeeded in qualifying for the 800m semi-finals.

Still, the two Maltese representatives are in good form and will have their eyes set of setting new national records in their respective events.

The Letzigrund stadium has become a symbol of world class athletics as no fewer than 25 world records have been set in this arena which is home to the renowned Weltklasse Meeting.

Besides, the championships are also set to attract a number of big names.

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah, of Great Britain, will be gunning for gold in the 10,000m, while in the men’s pole vault Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie, of France, will be seeking his third consecutive European title.

In the women’s sprints, Dutch girl Dafne Schippers will be attempting to win both the 100m and 200m.
