I have a question: why are the Malta Union of Teachers and the Education Ministry getting so hot under the collar about interview questions in which female teachers were asked whether or not they intended to have babies?

Isn’t it the employer’s sacrosanct right to know whether his employee is going to be a liability to him in the future?

Isn’t it the employer’s inviolable and immutable right to know whether his employee is going to get pregnant, be a drain on his patience and resources as she slowly becomes too pregnant to do anything besides light office work, go on leave on full pay for months at a time once she has the baby and later on return to her job as if nothing had happened but still only show up on and off because of post-partum depression or who knows what else?

I ask: isn’t this his right or have we become a communist country where the employees dictate the rules of engagement? Also, what analagous rights do men have with respect to all this?
