I must agree with Alfred Grixti, mayor of Żebbuġ, when he says that “Bishop Caruana was an opportunist and a French lackey who did not deserve to become a bishop.” (July 30)

Anyone who doubts this statement would be well advised to read The Lives of Bishop F.X. Caruana by Judge Giovanni Bonello, published in The Sunday Times of Malta on August 8 and August 15, 2004.

I know nothing whatsoever about Frans Sammut, whose name has replaced that of Bishop Caruana, but I certainly concur that Bishop Caruana does not deserve to have a street named after him.
