I do not normally rant about many things but thought the film industry deserved a line or two.

This is a very turbulent business: you either have a job or have to do other things to put food on the table for months.

Yes, the Brad pack’s in town and the production company will hopefully be registered in Malta, meaning VAT will be collected here.

But what fee will they be paying for the location on Gozo? Who gets the money? Will it be the Gozo Ministry, the local council, the Malta Film Commission or the central government?

By all accounts not many Gozitans will get a slice of the pie; a few extras maybe, and the runners, assistant production managers (another form of slavery with early mornings and late nights, but you have to start somewhere, right?), a few riggers and chippies, drivers, fuel stations, and of course the hotels and restaurants. I do hope the roadto the bay will be upgraded.

Gozo will get publicity and credits and perhaps a plaque on the cliffs to say Brad and Angeline were here, and it may become somewhere for the tourist groups to add to their itineraries.

I wish the movie good luck; hopefully it will lead to Gozo getting some more help in the future.
