Renzo Cordina from Żejtun was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

Last April, he successfully defended his thesis on ‘Intangibles in a venture capital setting’.

Cordina was supervised by Julia Smith on a Strathclyde PhD studentship.

His external examiner was Falconer Mitchell, professor of management accounting at Edinburgh University and chairman of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants’ research board. Jonathan Fletcher was the internal examiner.

Cordina also secured a tenure-track lectureship in management accounting at the University of Dundee from last May.

Smith and Cordina recently had a paper accepted for publication in the British Accounting Review.

The paper on ‘The role of accounting in high technology investments’ is based partly on work funded by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
