San Lawrenz residents gathered at Mġarr harbour last week to welcome the reliquary containing the blood of St Lawrence.

The transfer of the reliquary to San Lawrenz parish church was led by parish priest Charles Sultana, deputy parish priest Anthony Bajada and Fr Emanuel Cutajar, accompanied by the Italian delegation that brought the reliquary to Malta, led by the parish priest of Amaseno, Italo Cardilli, and the town mayor.

On July 26, pilgrimages to the church were conducted throughout the day from the island’s various parishes. In the morning, Dar Arka deputy director Fr Michael Galea celebrated a Mass for the elderly while in the evening, archpriest Nazju Borg led a prayer vigil with the reliquary at the parish church.

Last Sunday, the church remained open all day for the faithful to see and pray in front of the reliquary. In the evening, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech led a concelebrated pontifical Mass.
