The baroque façade of the Gozo Cathedral has been restored to its former glory. After years of restoration work, the scaffolding was finally dismantled to reveal the grandeur of the cathedral designed by Lorenzo Cafà in the late 17th century. It was opened in 1711 and dedicated on October 11, 1716. The light, shadow and dramatic intensity of the façade, which had been ruined by a number of poorly done interventions in the past hundred years, has been revealed once again. After a painstakingly long restoration costing several thousands of euro, the façade was finally cleared in time for the feast of Santa Marija and the 150th anniversary of the elevation of the church to a cathedral.
