The first edition of the Bieganski Art Festival is being organised by the Bieganski Foundation,

Founded in 2013 by Zdzislaw and Halina Bieganski, the foundation is dedicated to promote the understanding and appreciation of art and other manifestations of visual culture, primarily of the modern and contemporary periods, and to collect, conserve and study the art of our time.

To further this concept, the foundation is holding exhibitions, educational programmes, research initiatives and publications to engage a diverse audience.

The event provides the opportunity for artists and students of art to create their own work in full view of the visiting public during a month-long event.

The first edition of the festival marks the centenary of World War I. Visitors to the festival will walk through the four years of the war, listen to period music and speeches by prominent leaders and view short clips of life during the war.

The exhibition also incorporates 47 artists, including Raymond Pitre.

Also featuring are another 100 artists.

For the first time in Malta, 120 pieces from Gaston Pierre Galey, the French trench artist who inscribed his name in history by sketching and painting life in the trenches.

On exhibit are also authentic World War I artifacts, including medals, helmets, family tokens, newspaper cuttings, original photographs, postcards and letters. A series of concerts and talks are included in the programme.

The Bieganski Art Festival runs at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.
