Sliema Wanderers are poised to sign Italian player Andrea Pisanu on a season-long loan deal from Bologna.

Pisanu is an attacking midfielder who has played for a host of Italian clubs, reaching his peak during his six-year spell with Parma. He scored eight goals in 82 appearances for Parma between 2004 and 2010.

The Cagliari native has only made a handful of appearances for Bologna since joining them in 2010 but is still under contract with the Rossoblu who were relegated from the Serie A last season.

Having been alerted to Pisanu’s availability by a representative of his agents, Sliema immediately declared their interest in taking him on loan for one season.

It is believed that the Blues have already struck an agreement with Bologna and all that remains is for Pisanu to travel to Malta to complete his move.

Italian football website tutto-mercato.web reported that Pisanu is leaving Bologna to join Sliema Wanderers after the terms of his loan were agreed yesterday evening.

Were Pisanu to complete his move to Sliema, it would represent something of a coup for the Blues as the experienced midfielder, who is expected to arrive next week, had built a reputation as a reliable Serie A campaigner during his stint at the Tardini.

At 32, Pisanu still has plenty to offer but he will doubtless be looking to revive his career in the Premier League after struggling to live up to expectations in the last two seasons.

In 2013, Pisanu turned out for Canadian club Montreal Impact in the MLS before rejoining Lega Pro team Prato on loan earlier this year.

In 2012, Pisanu had visited Malta after his agents had sounded out Valletta but nothing came of that approach after the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

Sliema’s move for Pisanu has been prompted by the imminent departure of Stanley Ohawuchi.

The Nigerian forward is on the verge of signing for Wade Degla FC after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the Egyptian club.

Michael Mifsud is the other recognised striker in the Sliema squad, led by Italian coach Alfonso Greco, after the Malta captain rejoined his home club earlier this summer.

The Wanderers have also signed Italian defender Andrea Scozzese, who has impressed in pre-season, and Serbian midfielder Marko Potezica.

Elsewhere, Division One side Msida St Joseph have signed Brazilian forward Yuri de Jesus Messias on a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old turned out for Mosta last season.
